Session Focus: A  roadmap for employers as to why they should invest in mental health and wellbeing and how they can strengthen their organizations. With the average full-time worker spending about half of their waking life at work, workplaces significantly shape our mental and physical well-being. Employers have a unique opportunity not only to invest in their workforce’s mental health and well-being but also to strengthen their organizations’ success by doing so. 💥 CEO Required Reading: U.S. Surgeon General Framework On Workplace Mental Health (Forbes, November 2022) United States Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy recently released a new framework outlining the foundational role workplaces should play in promoting the health and well-being of workers and our communities. As reports of “quiet quitting” and the Great Resignation have shown, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the nature of work for many and the relationship some workers have with their jobs.

“A healthy workforce is a foundation for thriving organizations and healthier communities,” said Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy. “As we recover from the worst of the pandemic, we have an opportunity and the power to make workplaces engines for mental health and well-being, and this Surgeon General’s Framework shows us how we can start. It will require organizations to rethink how they protect workers from harm, foster a sense of connection among workers, show workers that they matter, make space for their lives outside work, and support their growth. It will be worth it because the benefits will accrue for workers and organizations alike.”
Join us virtually for a one-hour session introducing the Surgeon General’s Framework for Mental Health and Well-Being in the Workplace and discuss the role we can play as learning executives in helping to connect the dots and create a roadmap to increase individual and organizational effectiveness. In March, we will convene in person at our quarterly cohort of CLO/CTO to share case studies and brainstorm ideas on how we can take the lead in bringing this framework and ideas to our organizations.   ELE's Chicagoland & Wisconsin cohorts for Learning & HR Executives is a year-long learning process through face-to-face collaboration and networking with other local heads of Learning & Talent Development. Each senior leader is encouraged to bring a peer from their organization that contributes to, engages, or supports the Learning & Talent spectrum for their workplace. Our quarterly cohort exchanges use the following design elements:
  1. Sharing practical case studies aligned to business needs
  2. Identifying key issues and developing insights and solutions
  3. Canvassing learning industry trends applied at ELE members’ workplace
